He was born June 21st, 1897 in Lawton, Michigan to Frank and Della May Miller Chaffee. He grew up in Lawton, Paw Paw, and Kalamazoo, Michigan.
He married Irene Nichols from Detroit on (?) 1919. On April 22nd, 1920, a son was born and named Albert Franklin Chaffee.
They divorced and he took Albert home to his mother Della. When Albert was two years old, Sylvester met Ruby May Palmer and three weeks later they were married on April 18th, 1922 in Jackson Michigan. Ruby raised Albert as if he were her own.
On September 3rd, 1923, a daughter was born in Jamestown, Penn at Ruby's mother's house. When Jean was born three weeks old, Sylvester brought her and Ruby back to Jackson.
On April 16th, 1925, a son was born and named Robert Clayton Chaffee.
Sylvester worked in the dry cleaning business most of his life. He also worked at Mechanical Products from where he retired.
Ruby went to beauty school and opened her own beauty shop in the 1920's and 1930's.
When Sylvester retired, he and Ruby moved to Pinellas Park, Florida.
Sylvester passed away July 4th, 1975 in Florida. He is buried in the Holy Cross section of Roselad Memorial Gardens in Jackson, Michigan.
Sylvester had three brothers, Albert Roscoe Chafee, Lafayette Chaffee, and George William Chaffee.
He also had two half-brothers, Delevan Sylvester Litcard (Tommy) and Roscoe Charles Litchard.
He also had three half sisters, Anne May Litchard who passed away of a brain infection at age 1 month, Eunice L. Litchard and Alberta Mabel Litchard.
