His family was rich, but he was the black sheep of the family. He may have come from Monroe County, New York or Pittsford, New York. He migrated to Michigan and married Della May Miller July 27th, 1896. Marriage Record #2370 (found in Decateur, Michigan) "Frank Lafaette Chaffee Age 45 married Della May Miller Age 17 (really only 15) in Antwerp Twp. Michigan. Witnesses: Eunice Jane Britton, Antwerp, A. H. Britton, Antwerp Michigan. It also says: Place of Marriage, Paw Paw, Michigan, and a prior marriage for Frank. His wife died, and they did have a daughter.

He also lived in Lawtin, Grouin, Matawan and Jackson.

He either committed suicide or was murdered in a rooming house at the corner of Blackstone and Clinton Street in Jackson Michigan. He died by drinking carbolic acid (Shawn's note: see either the article or the transcript of the article). He is buried in the Freeland section of Woodlawn Cemetary No. 100 in Jackson Michigan.
