Notes:
Emigration records indicate that Philip Humphrey was born in Croydon; however, the 1901 census hints he may have been born in America. Whatever the case may be, Philip's mother Maria was apparently born in Croydon; Philip and his family lived in the area for many years.

Philip's wife Annie Lottie Forder Searl Humphrey was born and raised in Wimbledon; apparently, so were the Humphrey "cousins", the Harrods. The relationship between the Harrods and Humphreys, to the best of my current knowledge seems to be as follows. Maria Humphrey's mother (also named Maria) married Robert Saunders. Her maiden name was Harrod. Maria Harrod had a brother named Henry. Henry had a son, Israel. Israel lived and worked in Surrey as a "builder and decorator" according to the 1901 census. He had many children, some of whom traveled with and assisted Humphreys in their travels to America.

For example, Jessie Fannie Harrod traveled a remarkable 3 times to America, once with a Stella Florence Humphrey (I have not established a family relationship for Stella yet; there may not be one). When Philip traveled to America, he stayed with James H. Harrod of Ithaca, mentioned John J. Harrod of London as his next of kin in London, but finally ended up moving in with and working for Albert E. Harrod of Albion. All four Harrods mentioned were brothers and sisters, children of Israel. I'm still researching some of these relationships.

The Forder Searls were Annie Lottie's family. For some reason, once her father married her mother, Eliza Forder, nearly all of the children took the name Forder Searl. If Annie is any example, the children kept the name right down the line. Abraham and Eliza came from Cookham, Berkshire and Walberton, Sussex respectively.
