March 22nd, 2000. Amazing... my first stop in Dublin happened to be right here. I got off the bus, wandered a block, and found myself in front of Trinity College. AND... this happened to be where the Book of Kells is kept. I'd like to have taken a picture, but that was not permitted.

A pretty old tree on the grounds.

March 23rd, 2000. If you go to Dublin, you have to see St. Stephen's Green. I stopped here briefly, walking the grounds. It's very relaxing here.

I got some excellent pictures of this cathedral in Dublin, but I really don't know which one it is. St. Patrick's was closed when I was there. I could have waited around an hour to get in, but I wanted to get on the train and head to Galway.

It was a short stay in Dublin. I briefly visited the Castle, walked a few streets, and looked around. My dinner was good, though the pub owner didn't seem to like me on sight. He had the waitress ask me to pay up front. I considered briefly walking out, but figured, eh.

My roommate the first night in Ireland was an Irish/German fellow wrapping up his St. Patrick's Day visit. We talked a bit before I drifted off.

After a very fried breakfast the next day, I caught a cab to the train station. The driver took me past Guiness, which I'd sort of regretted not visiting. I think I overtipped him.

The train ride to Galway was quiet, though not particularly scenic, until I reached the west. The handmade stone fences, the rugged terrain told me quickly that this would be where I'd be spending most of my vacation. And I think it was a sage choice.

Next: Galway.
